History of The Heroines of Jericho
The Heroines of Jericho Court was established for teaching the
lessons of Morality, Loyalty and Friendship. It is intended to
instruct its female recipient in the high and noble principles
inculcated in the degrees which will appeal to the better instincts of
the human mind and to make known to them the claims which they have
upon the protection of their husbands, fathers and companions and to
communicate to them an effectual method of proving those claims. The Heroine degree was
practiced by Master Masons, their Wives and Daughters until the most
prominent ladies of Paris and other cities in France organized the
First Heroines Court. The Courts existed during the reign of the House
of Valois in France, A.D. 1428 to 1500 in England and other countries.
From A.D. 1500 to 1790, these courts did exist, but there were no
regularly organized courts. Courts were once again revived in France
in A.D. 1790, and were presided over by some of the most eminent
ladies of Paris and other cities in France. Under the empire of the
First Napoleon, the Court of Heroines of Jericho assumed a splendor in
never before or since equaled. The Empress Josephine presided over
Court of the Heroines of Jericho in Paris, France.
In the Court, men and women, companions
(Knights) and Heroines meet, supposedly to learn about this man called
the Christ, this man called Jesus (God is salvation), whose name is
the same as Jesse, as Joshua, as Jeshua, as the Anointed one, as the
Everlasting Father, and Almighty God, a Prince of Peace. He has been
called a Comforter; a Lily of the Valley; a Bright and Morning Star;
many names have been attributed to him, many titles, but they all add
up to one: The Son Of God! In the three degrees of the Heroines: The
Heroine of Jericho Degree, the True Kinsman's Degree and the Master Mason's
Daughter Degree, we trace what is called The Scarlet Line (Red/Scarlet a color of
prostitution and degradation). We follow it from the twins of Judah,
down to Jericho, meeting Rahab; we see it in Bethlehem with Ruth and
Boaz; we see it in David and Bathsheba and we see it in Joseph and
Mary. It is given to Jesus in the form of a robe, which soldiers later
cast lots for, but we see it all come together as an emblem of
salvation. It is a color of rejuvenation for the new Christian. These lessons as well as everything that is
pure and elevating are taught in the Court by facts and symbols along
with their beauty is more clear and expressive today than ever before.
When the degree is received by a male he is called a Knight of
Jericho, and when by a female she is termed a Heroine. The Heroines of Jericho is a side or
honorary degree of Royal Arch Masonry.
